DIY Heart Cat Collar Photo Prop
Every Valentine’s Day the internet chooses a new animal trend. This year it is cats in heart collars and I fully support this movement.
I made this simple heart cutout from red cardstock and ended up laughing way too much while taking photos. My cat did not think it was funny. The photos say otherwise.
This is a super easy craft and perfect if you want cute photos for social media, cards, or just to annoy your cat with love.
Good news. I am offering the printable file as a FREE JPG for personal use only. This is not for commercial use.
What you need
Supplies I used on this project
Canon MF753CDW Printer - I used an older Canon model for this project. It’s no longer available, so I linked the newer version which is the closest current model.
Delectables Cat Treats - for bribery :)

Step 1 Print the template
Download the free file from my blog, scroll down for the link.
Print on red cardstock. Regular paper will flop and we want this heart to stand proud.

Step 2 Cut the heart
You can cut this by hand or use a cutting machine.
If using Silhouette or Cricut
1. Import the file
2. Trace or cut the outline
3. Send to cut using cardstock settings

If cutting by hand
• Take a deep breath
• Channel your inner kindergarten scissors skills
• Cut slowly
No judgement here :)
Step 3 Insert your cat
This is the chaotic part.
Gently slide the heart over your cat’s head like a giant Valentine donut. Do not force it. Do not chase your cat around the house yelling come back I love you. They hate that.
Use treats. Lots of treats.
Step 4 Take photos fast
You have about 7 seconds before your cat removes the heart or disappears into another dimension.
Take many photos. Laugh a lot
My results
I cannot stop laughing at these photos. My cat looks like a Valentine superhero and also slightly offended.
Totally worth it.
